1. Does your name have any special meaning?

At first, I thought my name was mediocre; however, as far as I know, my name was given by my grandfather with a desire that I would be a noble, distinguished, and bright young lady when I'm grown up. More specially, Kim Anh was the former name of my hometown, and my grandfather wanted me to always respect my birthplace, and show gratitude to my ancestors. Therefore, my name is meaningful to me, and I appreciate this beloved name.

Well, I haven’t thought about naming for my subsequent generation. However, when it comes to giving names to my babies, I have a preference for consulting my parents about the meaning of each given name. Moreover, I had better associate my kids’ names with memorable events in my family to strengthen my family cohesion. Indeed, I suppose names play a significant/crucial role in individuals’ lives that they could stay with people throughout their lives.

3. Are there any differences between how Vietnamese people name their children now and in the past?

Personally, there is almost no difference in naming children trends between now and in the past. In reality, the majority of parents have lofty/high aspirations towards their offspring as good fortune, peace, happiness, and success. However, recently some parents seem to be more superstitious that they choose names for their children based on Feng Shui elements suited to their family.

4. Does anyone in your family have the same name as you?

Maybe nope. Honestly, every member of my family has a different name, so we could avoid confusion and awkward situations in identifying family members’ names. Moreover, giving unique names for members also represents that everyone has their own distinctive characteristics/identity. Therefore, I maintain that it is such a rational decision.
