2.1. Mạo từ không xác định: a và an

"A" và "an" được dùng khi đề cập đến một đối tượng chưa xác định hoặc khi nói đến lần đầu tiên.

• "A": Dùng trước danh từ tiếng Anh bắt đầu bằng phụ âm. Ví dụ: a book, a car, a university.

• "An": Dùng trước danh từ bắt đầu bằng nguyên âm (a, e, i, o, u) hoặc các từ bắt đầu bằng âm câm. Ví dụ: an apple, an hour, an honest person.

2.2. Mạo từ xác định: the

"The" dùng để chỉ một đối tượng đã được xác định, đã nhắc đến trước đó hoặc ai cũng hiểu rõ về nó. Ví dụ:

• I saw a cat. The cat was very cute. (Con mèo đã nhắc đến trước đó).

• The sun is shining. (Mọi người đều biết "mặt trời" là gì).

2.3. Trường hợp không dùng mạo từ

• Khi nói về danh từ số nhiều hoặc danh từ không đếm được với ý nghĩa chung chung. Ví dụ: Cats are lovely animals. (Mèo là loài động vật đáng yêu.) ⏩ Nói về mèo nói chung.

• Với tên riêng, danh từ chỉ bữa ăn, môn thể thao, hoặc các ngày trong tuần. Ví dụ: I had breakfast at 8 a.m. (Tôi ăn sáng lúc 8 giờ sáng.)

A village festival day

I live in a small village in northern Viet Nam. Every year, people in my village look forward to the third day of Tet. It is one of our most important festival days.

In the morning, we gather along the riverside to watch some competitions. First, there is a special boat race. Some team members cook rice on the boat while others row the boat as fast as they can. The fastest team with well-cooked rice wins the race. Then, the referee releases a duck into the middle of the river. Contestants jump into the river to catch it. The atmosphere becomes loud with the sound of drums and cheers of festival goers.

At noon, there is a village party at the communal house for the elders. Each family also holds a home party. We cook traditional dishes like sticky rice and steamed chicken. Sometimes, we include food that children love, such as bun cha or even pizzas!
