The table provides a breakdown on people enrolled at an Australian university in 2009. Overall, while females predominated in the humanities, engineering witnessed the lowest share of them. In addition, the proportion of students whose mother tongue is not English and foreign-born ones was most significant in Information Technology.

With regard to gender distribution, more than half of the given majors witnessed a percentage of female students greater than 50%. Of these fields, humanities recorded the highest level of 72%, which was followed by Education, with 68%. Meanwhile, females accounted for 15% of Engineering students and 17% in Information Technology.

In 2009, 49% of people pursuing the Information Technology major did not speak English as their first language. The second highest data could be seen in Science, with 45%, while the levels for Education and Humanities were around one-third of this figure, with 16% and 12%, respectively. Regarding their origin, the foreign-born students made up 56% of both Physics and Information Technology students, whereas no other field reported a percentage higher than 50%. The data of Engineering came closest to 50%, with 48%, while the lowest shares of the foreign-born cohort could be seen in Humanities, Education, and Science, with 20%, 23% and 31%, respectively.
