The chart below gives information on the percentage of British people giving money to charity by age range for the years 1990 and 2010.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

The bar chart compares the share of British people who donated to charity by age in two given years. Overall, only the two oldest age groups witnessed a rise in the level of support for charities. In addition, while people between 36 and 50 gave money to charity the most in 1990, the data of the 51-65 age range was highest in 2010.

In 1990, around 42% of people in the 36-50 age cohort donated to charitable causes, followed by 35% in the next older group between 51 and 65 years old. The figures for seniors above 65 and people from the 26-35 age range, meanwhile, were largely similar, with 32% and 31%, respectively. These statistics were roughly twice the level for the youngest demographic, which stood as the lowest in 1990, with 17%.

Twenty years later, the most significant figure was seen in the 51-65 age group, having risen to nearly 40%, whereas people between 36 and 50 and seniors over 65 years old reported identical levels of support for charity at 35%. With regard to the two youngest age ranges, their proportions of charity donors decreased and remained the lowest in that year, with around 24% and 6%, respectively.
