II. Sample IELTS Speaking Part 2: Describe a kind of weather you like

I assume that my weather preference varies according to the city where I reside. Currently, I am living in Hanoi, the capital of my country, so my answer will be the late winter. It usually begins in December and continues until the end of March. Although it only lasts for 2-3 months, the weather is worth the wait since other than this period of time, Hanoi stays scorching, dry, and unpleasant.

As winter comes to an end, the weather is delightful. No more bitterly cold as it is in October or November, it’s a bit cooler and humid with occasional showers. This is the only time when I can dress up in my winter outfits and hang out with friends without putting on too many thick layers. One of my favorite destinations during these months is the Old Quarter in Hoan Kiem District. Just imagine having a big steamy bowl of Pho then strolling along Ta Hien Street on a Saturday morning; it sounds really therapeutic to me. Not to mention, the late winter also coincides with Christmas Eve and Vietnamese Lunar New Year. The festive atmosphere in these months always brightens up my trivial daily life.

However, much as I love the late winter, I do encounter several troubles at this time of the year; the most annoying one has to be the unexpected rain as it can really ruin a wonderful day out. Additionally, I tend to eat a lot when it gets cold. Thus, I often gain some weight in this season. This is quite depressing for me sometimes.

But, all in all, the late winter is undoubtedly a signature feature of Hanoi, and it will forever remain my favorite.
