In November 2024, PREP EDU was honored to participate in New Directions East Asia, the British Council’s premier conference on language assessment and education in the region. New Directions East Asia 2024’s Key Theme and Topics
Held from November 21 to 23, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand, New Directions East Asia gathered leading experts across the Asia-Pacific region to explore the theme: “The Power of Language Assessment on Individuals and Society.”
The conference examined how language policies and assessment practices shape personal growth and broader social development, with 4 distinct focus areas:
1. English Language Policy, Learning Systems, and Assessment: Exploring how assessment policies influence curriculum design and improve learners’ real-world communication skills.
2. Policy and Society: Highlighting how language policy supports economic growth, global connectivity, and social mobility, especially in relation to employment and migration opportunities.
3. English Alongside Other Languages: Discussing the evolving role of English alongside local languages in Southeast Asia, and promoting inclusive multilingual education.
4. Technology and AI: Investigating AI-driven innovations, including personalized learning paths and more accessible, scalable testing solutions.
