Contrast clause ในภาษาอังกฤษเป็นโครงสร้างทางไวยากรณ์ที่นิยมใช้ ดังนั้น ในการสร้าง contrast clause จะต้องมีองค์ประกอบอะไรบ้าง เรามาดูไปพร้อมกันกับ PREP ในบทความด้านล่างนี้!

I. Contrast clause ในภาษาอังกฤษคืออะไร

Contrast clasue (อนุประโยคแสดงความขัดแย้ง) เป็นโครงสร้างทางไวยากรณ์ในภาษาอังกฤษที่ใช้เปรียบเทียบหรือแสดงลักษณะที่ขัดแย้งระหว่างแนวคิดหรือข้อมูลสองอย่างภายในประโยค

โดยปกติแล้ว contrast clause จะใช้คํา (words) วลี (phrases) มาประกอบด้วย เช่น but, while, however, on the other hand, in contrast เป็นต้น ตัวอย่างเช่น "I like Thai foods but I don’t like eggs." (เราชอบอาหารไทยแต่ไม่ชอบไข่) หรือตัวอย่างอื่น ๆ เช่น:

Peter is quite talkative and confident, while Linda's shy and quiet. (Peter เป็นคนพูดเก่งและมั่นใจ ในขณะที่ Linda ขี้อายและเงียบ)
Fiona studied hard; however, she didn't perform well on the exam. (Fiona ตั้งใจเรียนหนัก แต่ก็ยังทำข้อสอบไม่ดี)

1. ใช้ subordinating conjunctions (คำสันธานเชื่อมประโยค)

	ความหมาย	การใช้งาน	ตัวอย่าง
Whereas /weərˈæz/	ในขณะที่	ใช้เพื่อแสดงเวลา หรือความขัดแย้งแตกต่างที่ชัดเจนระหว่างทั้งสองประโยค	Mona prefers tea, whereas her brother always drinks coffee. Mona ชอบดื่มชา ในขณะที่พี่ชายของเธอชอบดื่มกาแฟ
While /waɪl/			Tiffany enjoys swimming, while her sister prefers hiking. Tiffany ชอบว่ายน้ำ ในขณะที่น้องสาวของเธอชอบเดินป่า
Whilst /waɪlst/			Alex enjoys playing video games whilst his friend prefers reading books. Alex ชอบเล่นวิดีโอเกม ในขณะที่เพื่อนของเขาชอบอ่านหนังสือ

2. การใช้ coordinating conjunctions (คำสันธานเชื่อมคำหรือวลี)

But เป็นคําว่า conjuncton ใช้บ่อยที่สุดในภาษาอังกฤษ แล้ว เราใช้ but ใน contrast clause อย่างไรบ้าง มาดูตัวอย่างจาก PREP กัน:

I really want to buy that expensive car, but I am poor. (อยากซื้อรถคันแพงนั้นมาก แต่เราจน)
Mina is very hard-working but not very imaginative. (Mina ขยันมาก แต่ไม่ค่อยมีจินตนาการ)

3. การใช้ adverbial conjunction (คำสันธานวิเศษณ์) หรือ adverbial phrase (วิเศษณานุประโยค)

Adverbial conjuntion และ adverbial phrase "on the one hand...on the other hand", "on the contrary", "in comparison and by comparison", และ "in contrast and by contrast" เป็นคำที่เป็นประโยชน์ในภาษาอังกฤษสําหรับการเปรียบเทียบหรือแสดงความขัดแย้งระหว่างสองวลี:

On the one hand…on the other hand	ในด้านหนึ่ง...อีกด้านหนึ่ง	On the one hand, Anna values the stability of a 9-to-5 job; on the other hand, she craves the excitement of freelance work. ในแง่หนึ่ง Anna ให้ความสำคัญกับความมั่นคงของงาน 9 โมงเช้าถึง 5 โมงเย็น; แต่ในอีกแง่หนึ่ง เธอชอบความตื่นเต้นจากงานฟรีแลนซ์
On the contrary	ตรงกันข้าม/ ในทางกลับกัน	Many people believe Smith is shy. On the contrary, he is quite outgoing in social activities. หลายคนเชื่อว่า Smith ขี้อาย ในทางกลับกัน เขาค่อนข้างเข้าสังคมในกิจกรรมทางสังคม
In contrast		Moana enjoys the hustle and bustle of the city. In contrast, her brother prefers the quietude of rural life. Moana ชอบความวุ่นวายของเมือง ตรงกันข้าม พี่ชายของเธอชอบความเงียบสงบของชนบท
By contrast		Linda is passionate about technology; by contrast, her sister has little interest in it. Linda คลั่งไคล้เทคโนโลยี ในทางกลับกัน น้องสาวของเธอไม่ค่อยสนใจเท่าไหร่
In comparison (to)	เทียบกับ	In comparison to last year, this year's profits have significantly increased. เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับปีที่แล้ว กำไรของปีนี้เพิ่มขึ้นอย่างมาก
By comparison	เทียบกับ	Cynthia was very nervous. Martha was quite calm by comparison. Cynthia กังวลมาก ในทางกลับกัน Martha ค่อนข้างสงบ
However/ Nevertheless	อย่างไรก็ตาม/แต่	We have not yet won; however, we will keep trying. เรายังไม่ชนะ แต่เราจะพยายามต่อ
