From IELTS 5.5 to 7.0: Not just a score, but a gateway to career opportunities
After reaching a band of 5.5, Kim Tran returned to the IELTS journey with a clear target: 7.0, to prepare for job applications in Taiwan. After four months of dedicated practice, she was supported consistently by Prep Edu’s platform and achieved her goal.
Returning to IELTS with a different purpose
This time, returning to the exam, Kim Tran set a new destination: 7.0. It wasn’t only about improving English skills, but also about unlocking a specific future plan: career opportunities in Taiwan. Kim admitted the journey was far from easy. “I was really worried because my target this time was higher than before,” Kim shared.
Learning with Prep AI Test Practice
One thing that stood out in Kim Tran’s approach was the consistent learning loop: practice tests - check the answers - identify mistakes - review and fix the weak points. With that strategy and a daily practice routine, she found Prep Edu especially helpful in keeping her preparation structured and consistent.
A key part of her routine was the Prep AI Test Practice, which “are very similar to the actual exam,” - Kim Tran said. Practicing in this environment helped her get used to the time pressure and test format. After each attempt, she could quickly see her results, errors, and detailed explanations. These scores were about 90% accurate compared to her real test results. Integrated highlight and dictionary features helped her review sessions faster and more effectively. Over time, Prep Edu became less like a traditional online class and more like a learning companion that was always available when she needed it.
For each skill, Kim Tran also applied different strategies. For example, she set strict time limits for Reading using a 10–25–25 minutes structure across the three parts. And for Listening, she often predicted the word form needed for each answer before the audio began. With Writing and Speaking, she worked on developing ideas more clearly and fixing pronunciation habits that could cost points. All of these methods were guided, explained, and practiced through Prep Edu’s lessons.
Accelerating progress with the Virtual Speaking Room and Virtual Writing Room
During the preparation period, Kim used Prep Edu’s Virtual Practice Room as an AI-powered tool to speed up improvement in the two most challenging skills: Writing and Speaking.
For Writing, Kim shared: “The Virtual Writing Room gave me detailed feedback right after each writing task.” The feedback included grammar corrections, vocabulary upgrades, and personalized suggestions to strengthen her response. Most importantly, it helped her improve the IELTS Writing Part 2, which she used to struggle with. If her writing previously “went off-topic or drifted away from the question,” it became more structured and on track. “I take ideas from the upgraded version, it helps me develop my arguments further and express them more clearly”, she said.
For Speaking, Kim realized she had been making many pronunciation mistakes out of habit. With AI feedback pointing out those words, she was able to improve her pronunciation significantly. After each submission, she could replay her recording and compare her pronunciation with a standard model, making self-correction much more precise.
She shared, “I prefer Prep AI Test Practice to studying with a teacher because I can learn proactively on my own.”
In the end, Kim Tran achieved an overall IELTS score of 7.0. Prep Edu would like to congratulate Kim Tran on this proud milestone. To us, this is not only Kim Tran's achievement, but also a result of continuous efforts to develop useful learning features that help students study in a simpler, faster, and more effective way.
