30 Days to 960 TOEIC: what is Ngan Phan’s secret?

Only about a month before test day, Ngan Phan began studying in a truly focused way. The result? An incredible 960 score on her very first attempt! For this senior at the University of Economics and Law (UEL) in Vietnam, what helped her achieve such an impressive result?

The "quality over quantity" sprint

Like many final-year students, Ngan Phan “couldn’t really balance a hectic schedule with exam preparation." So even though she had enrolled in the course earlier, she committed to the TOEIC test when there were only 30 days left.

Instead of drowning in materials, Ngan chose a lean strategy: "study less, review more." She mastered each section before moving on, and ensured that every mistake was fixed. This approach maximized her efficiency and turned every hour of study into real points.

Prep AI Test Practice: The ultimate productivity hack

During her intensive preparation, Prep AI Test Practice was the tool Ngan Phan used the most.

Since she could only study late at night, she really appreciated the system’s progress-saving feature and the option to practice each part separately. "I didn't have to finish a full mock test at once," Ngan shared. “It felt more convenient and much more flexible for the way I studied.”

For Reading, Ngan Phan used the skimming and scanning method to find key information faster. Instead of getting stuck on every sentence, she marked difficult questions and came back later. “At first, Reading part felt exhausting. Later on, I could finish each Part 7 passage in just five minutes.”

For Listening, she focused on keywords rather than trying to hear every word. She also increased the audio speed during practice, which made the real test feel easier and helped her stay more confident.

She also built vocabulary through realistic test sets on Prep Edu. “The answer explanations highlighted important words very carefully, so I learned a lot from them. When I took the real test, most of the vocabulary was already in that word set,” Ngan Phan said, surprised.

The TOEIC journey is not over yet

Scoring 960 on the TOEIC in the first attempt, including 465 in Reading and a perfect 495 in Listening, was the result of a smart and strategic study approach. But her learning journey isn’t stopping there. After her positive experience with Prep Edu, she shared that she plans to come back and continue with the other two skills through the Virtual Speaking Room and Virtual Writing Room.
