Let’s quickly explore the sample IELTS Speaking Part 1 Ocean below with PREP!
1. How much time have you spent by the ocean?
Not much to be honest. I live in Ho Chi Minh City, which is not a coastal city, unfortunately. Therefore, if I want to go to the beach, I need to travel by car for about 1.5 hours. Because of the long distance, I rarely go to the beach.

Coastal (adj): Related to the coast
-
Unfortunately (adv): Sadly; regrettably
-

2. Why do people like being near the ocean?
People like being near the ocean because of the calm that the ocean brings. It’s just very soothing for the mind and the body to stand in the water, listen to the waves crashing onto the shore, and feel the ocean breeze. Of course, many people also enjoy lying and sunbathing on the beach or swimming or surfing in the water. The ocean is both a place of great calm and great energy at the same time.

I prefer to spend my leisure time indoors rather than outdoors. Vietnam is a tropical country which has really harsh weather with a lot of intense sunshine. And being under the sun for a long period of time can be extremely harmful to my skin. That’s the reason why I like spending time indoors.

The worst thing about being in a house is that we do not have the chance to play outdoor sports. They are tennis, swimming and volleyball to name a few. Being indoor all the time also means we don’t get as much fresh air or feel a nice breeze on our skin.
