TOEIC hacks to score 900+ on the first attempt with Prep Edu

Long Tran, one of Prep Edu’s standout learners, had paused his English studies for years after high school. Balancing university life between pursuing Korean studies major, doing part-time job, and relearning English, he still managed to reach a remarkable 900+ TOEIC score on his very first attempt. Let’s discover his study tips in the story below!

First impressions of Prep Edu’s TOEIC course

Long first heard about Prep Edu from a friend who had studied IELTS there and highly recommended the platform. “I’d never studied TOEIC before, but when I looked into Prep Edu, it felt like the right choice with a clear learning roadmap,” he shared.

For Long, the biggest advantage of studying TOEIC online with Prep Edu was flexibility. “In my senior year, I started working part-time and couldn’t attend late-night offline classes. With Prep Edu, I could simply open lesson videos at any time, anywhere. It was so convenient.”

Journey of building up Listening & Reading skills

Long’s English foundation in high school was solid, but it weakened during university. “Since I had to start over, I focused on grammar revision. With clear, concise explanations and practical exercises, Prep Edu helped me retain the lessons longer. I like learning through exercises because it reinforces grammar while expanding vocabulary”, he shared, “at first, I didn’t expect much. I thought studying online might be hard to maintain. But Prep Edu’s personalized Study Plan kept me motivated.”

Before the official exam, Long took several mock tests and scored around 850. Yet on test day, his score jumped to 920 TOEIC, including a perfect 495 in Listening. “Listening was the skill I invested in most,” Long said. “I already had a habit of listening to English through music and movies, so the Prep Edu fits me well. The course instructed me to focus on keywords and predict answers instead of trying to understand every word. I practiced with many tests, noted key phrases, and trained my reflexes, and it really paid off.”

For Reading, which Long found the most challenging, Prep Edu helped him develop an effective study method. “Reading was tough because of vocabulary. Prep Edu guided me to read strategically: start with the questions, identify keywords, and skim for main ideas. The flashcards for each lesson also helped expand my vocabulary. I used an English–English dictionary, wrote down examples and usage, and learned synonyms along the way.”

Consistent study habits leading to 900+ TOEIC

To prepare for the exam, Long spent about three months reviewing his foundation and one month focused on practice tests. He usually studied after 9 p.m. for around two hours each night - watching two or three lesson videos, then doing exercises right after to reinforce what he learned.

Long said, “The practice tests on Prep Edu were slightly harder than the real exam but very close to the actual format. They helped me get used to time pressure and manage each section better. My mock test scores were around 800-850, but I ended up scoring 920 in the real test, which made me really proud. What I liked most was how detailed the answer explanations were. They clearly pointed out why an answer was wrong and where the keyword appeared. I learned a lot from my own mistakes.”

Long’s TOEIC score has given him a strong edge at work, earning him a performance bonus and motivating him to pursue his goal of becoming bilingual in Korean and English. His story is a great encouragement for TOEIC learners that with the right strategy and consistent effort, anyone can achieve their goals.
