In 1995, both gas and coal accounted for nearly 30% of the total amount of power generated in France. The level of petroleum production was slightly lower, with 29.27%. Nuclear power, meanwhile, made up merely 6.4%, which made it the least common source of energy. The remaining sources combined did not exceed 5% in terms of share.

In 2005, the proportion of nuclear power produced was greater by 3.7 percentage points at 10.10%. Even though this remained the lowest figure in 2005, it was half as much as that of petrol, which had seen a lower level of nearly 10% with 19.55%. Meanwhile, the shares of coal and gas production were higher by a negligible degree at 30.93% and 30.31%, respectively. This chart was rounded off by other sources of energy, accounting for 9% of France’s total power generation.
