From Zero to 935 TOEIC: A strategic learning journey of an IT professional

Starting from almost no TOEIC background, Linh Nguyen achieved a 935 score by focusing on the right strategy and platform, not just more practice.

Fixing time constraints and weak foundations

Linh Nguyen is currently working in IT. She began her TOEIC journey with a clear goal: to score above 900 to meet job requirements and enhance her career opportunities. However, her starting point was far from ideal. She had never studied TOEIC before and had spent years away from English while focusing on French at university. This meant her journey was not only about learning, but also about finding the right approach.

Linh’s first challenge was balancing a busy work schedule while rebuilding her English foundation. Instead of attending traditional offline classes, she chose Prep Edu for its structured roadmap and flexibility. This allowed her to study on weekends, spending 5-6 hours per day watching 8-10 videos and immediately practicing afterward. The short, focused lessons with clear explanations and examples helped her understand how to approach each question type. Features such as instant, accurate AI scoring and multi-device access also made it easier to stay consistent.

Turning weaknesses into a strategy

As she progressed, Linh realized her greatest difficulties lay in Listening and Reading for different reasons.

In Listening, especially Parts 3 and 4, she often lost track of information and hesitated between answers. Prep Edu helped her shift from passive listening to a more strategic approach by focusing on question keywords (what, when, how) and using elimination techniques. This significantly improved her response speed and accuracy.

Regarding Reading, the main issue was time pressure. She used to rush or leave questions unfinished. By applying the strategies taught in the course, she learned how to manage her time and approach each question type more effectively. In her actual test, she even had 5-6 minutes left, something she had never experienced before.

A solid base through structured support

Alongside skill improvement, Linh focused on systematically building her vocabulary. In addition to learning from her work environment, she studied topic-based vocabulary in the course, supported by contextual videos and practice exercises.

The Study Plan played a key role in guiding her learning by effectively balancing theory and vocabulary. Tools such as extended vocabulary lists, interactive exercises, and detailed explanations helped her not only remember but also truly understand. Combined with clear teaching and a user-friendly platform, this system kept her engaged throughout her learning process.

Limited practice, maximum impact

After nearly a year of building her foundation, Linh spent just two weeks practicing full tests, completing only 1–2 mock exams before the real test. Despite limited practice, her strong foundation and clear strategies helped her perform confidently.

Looking back, she believes she could have achieved even more if she had started earlier and spent more time on test practice. Her advice is simple: dedicate at least 4–8 hours per week to studying. With sufficient focus, learners can complete the course quickly, leaving more time for intensive practice.

With a 935 TOEIC score, Linh now confidently meets her job requirements and uses this achievement as a strong highlight on her CV and LinkedIn, a result of learning strategically rather than just studying harder.
