Khoi Nguyen: Scoring 8.0 IELTS In Just 3 Months Through Consistency And Discipline

Khoi Nguyen, one of Prep Edu’s excellent students, achieved an impressive IELTS score in just three months. Khoi’s Tips to Achieve Reading 9.0 and Listening 8.5

With a solid academic foundation, Khoi was already familiar with long, complex reading excerpts. However, he remained meticulous in his approach, taking thorough notes and following every lesson on Prep Edu.

His strategy to achieve a Reading score of 9.0 was to focus on understanding the passage fully before linking key phrases in questions with keywords in the text. He warned against over-relying on scan-and-skim methods, which may cause test-takers to miss critical information.

For Listening, Khoi focused on understanding, processing, and interpreting spoken content. He studied Prep Edu’s lesson methodically while also immersing himself in English outside of class, such as through movies and YouTube videos, to build listening reflexes. He also practiced frequently using Cambridge IELTS 15, 16, and 17 test materials via Prep Edu’s platform. “I found Prep Edu’s interface convenient. Strategy for Achieving Speaking 7.0 and Writing 7.0

As an introverted person, Khoi initially found Speaking the most intimidating skill. He had many ideas but struggled to express them fluently, logically, and within the confines of test expectations. To overcome, he practiced daily using Prep Edu’s Virtual Speaking Room (VSR) in Exam Simulation Mode to get used to structured speaking tasks and real test conditions.

“I practiced using the Virtual Speaking Room every day for three months. I ran through all three parts of the test and reviewed all the feedback. After just a few weeks, I noticed major improvements in pronunciation, fluency, and especially vocabulary.”

Khoi’s revision method included reviewing all speaking transcripts, checking for full coverage of ideas, and identifying how well he reused vocabulary from past lessons. He compared his answers to sample responses and compiled a personal list of high-level vocabulary to apply in future sessions.

For Writing, Khoi relied entirely on Prep Edu’s IELTS Writing course, which he found especially effective. “The lessons were focused, without unnecessary details, and filled with high-quality instruction. I learned how to build ideas reasonably, stay aligned with each assessment criterion, and write more logically.
